Memberships and Restricted Access

There is alot more you can do for your customers if you know more about them. Sometimes by sharing special areas of the site to your members only you can create a vehicle for gathering information that site visitors would otherwise not share. For example, if you had a company that sold cooking products, you could share special recipes with your customers if you knew more about the type of recipes that they would like to receive special access to. This, in turn, would give you more information as to the type of products to order and offer to your customers. You could then tie in a special advertisement in your members area that would advertise a new arrival of items to purchase for the recipe that they viewing.

Although memberships don't have to be paid in order to monetize on them, selling memberships to share specialized information is a great way of monetizing your site. The Wall Street Journal is a great example of a paid access site. Paid access can also be used as a convenience incentive in order to allow access to tools that would otherwise require driving time and money to obtain. For example accessing legal documents, certification forms and checklists, or specialized shopping clubs. Monetizing your site using a membership or access level component is only limited to your imagination.
