“Swiping up” is a feature available to business Instagram accounts that have at least 10,000 followers. “Swiping up” is how your followers open a link you post to your Instagram story. It’s an incredibly powerful tool that allows you to speak directly to your followers and give them a call to action that will connect them directly with your store or website.

Swiping up doesn’t just increase traffic, it also has a huge effect on your sales and revenue. In order to use the “Swipe Up” tool effectively, you will want to treat your Instagram story as an important marketing opportunity, and make sure that the photo or video you are using is relevant and enticing to your audience.

How to Add a Link to your Instagram Story

  1. Tap on your profile photo in the Instagram app
  2. If you don’t have any posted stories, Instagram’s camera will open, with a menu at the bottom of the screen
  3. You can take a photo by tapping the shutter at the bottom of the screen, or a video by holding the shutter down. If you want to choose a photo from your camera roll, tap the square photo button on the bottom left of your screen in order to select one.
  4. After choosing or taking your photo or video, you can add effects by tapping on the icons at the top of the screen.
  5. When you are satisfied, tap ‘Send To’ and then ‘Your Story’ to post your photo or video to your Instagram story for 24 hours

Can Anyone Add a Link to Their Instagram Story?

Only accounts with 10,000 followers or more or verified accounts can add links to their Instagram stories. To many accounts, 10,000 followers is a seemingly unachievable figure, and a lot of businesses resort to buying followers to reach that milestone. While that’s not recommended and can backfire in a multitude of ways in the long run, it can be an effective way to quickly be able to utilize the Swipe Up feature.

What is a Verified Instagram Account?

Verified Instagram accounts have a badge that means that Instagram has established that the account is authentic and represents a public figure, celebrity, or global brand. These accounts have a high probability of being impersonated.
How Can I Get My Instagram Account Verified?
If your Instagram account represents a global brand, public figure, or a celebrity, you can request to have it verified. To do this, you go to your Settings, then tap Account, then tap Request Verification. You will need to provide your full name and the required identification.

Many people try to get their accounts verified, and despite having a large number of followers, Instagram does not issue them a Verified badge. If you are not able to get your Instagram account verified and you are concerned about appearing “authentic,” we recommend that you link your Instagram account to a verified Twitter or YouTube account, or even your website. This will reassure your followers that you are the real deal.

What Kind of Instagram Accounts Are Verified?

Only Instagram accounts that represent a global brand, public figure, or a celebrity are able to be verified. The majority of Instagram accounts are not able to get a verified badge, and you should not be too concerned about becoming verified unless you are having a lot of issues with people trying to impersonate you or your brand.
